Thank you to my Patreon supporters for voting for this topic! Today we’re covering my learning process in fighting games – these are the 4 steps I follow when picking up any fighting game for the first time! Hope you find it informative and useful for your own learning process!

Today I’m playing King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match, the steam version, public beta branch. Code Mystics has been absolutely killing it with the rollback lately, and this port is no exception!

  1. I am on the verge of crying, no matter how much I play I just cannot win and it's not like I don't know what I'm doing, it sucks to be so bad at a thing you love so much

  2. As someone who is new to fighting games I think this video is great. Pretty much any online game starts as a learning experience and it's not a bad thing to lose constantly, as long as you're realising what mistakes you did/ what you can improve on. Also cool to see how experienced fighting game players approach learning a new game

  4. Thanks for the great video and this game looks good, I think I will try it out.

  5. Does King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match have a scanlines option?

  6. kof is a game where people hyper hop all the time while using either 2+4 or 4

  7. seeing you failing miserably, was really encouraging, thanks!
now time to learn KOF XIV X)

  8. I hate it that they UNbrazilied Leona… used to be my fav character bcuz of her nationality

  9. DNF Duel Open Beta is online only and I've only ever played Tekken 7 like twice😃, 😂I'm gonna try

  10. A really really motivating video for all new padawans !!!

  11. Me, someone who's learning KOF and Blazblue, I wish I have found this earlier

  12. This guy tried to stay out of Yuri, seems like she can kick so hard

  13. Is it me or Leona's feet are floating from the ground? Has it always been like that? I never noticed it.

  14. "116 ping is high"

Imagine playing with a ping of 300-500ms. And still winning. In Guilty gear Strive as Potenkin.

  15. So I'm trying a fighting game for the first time with an Xbox controller. Should I try learning the inputs using the anolog stick or the d-pad?

  16. This is way to complicated. I'm assuming this tutorial is for those who are already familiar with fighting game mechanics

  17. This warms my heart. I grew up on KOF, so it makes me really happy to see JM Croft appreciate this game.

  18. I liked your guide. It was a little intimidating when you did the supers that needed like 8+ inputs, since that's where I struggle the most but you had a fantastic gameplan for learning a game/character

  19. I am a simple man. I see Leona in the thumbnail I like

  20. Rule 1 don't give up. Rule 2 accept the fact you will lose the more you learn Rule 3 get mad that you are getting beat and take that rage to learn. Rule 4 accept that you won't be good over night Rule 5 keep trying it will eventually get easy and you will never feel that good for making it rule 6 watch alot of jmcroft

  21. Imagine assuming a game has a tutorial! Good fighting were released exlusively by Capcom exclusively in the '90s. There was no such thing as a tutorial. You had to look up an FAQ somebody typed out in Notepad and hope you could get a console version so you could use the 2nd player as a test dummy.

  22. I don't mind losing. It's the getting stomped that kills me. Watching someone put me in a combo the entire games makes me turn it off lol

  23. Very nice video.
As always, simple, precise and with a smile.
Made me wanna go play online 👍

  24. Thanks for the video. I want to start playing fighting games, but I have always hated losing online. And I do a lot of losing.

  25. Uh no Munin it takes away from the experience you can't learn to (tech) a throw without having experienced it at some point you can't (counter) a (whiff) or (block) a special move properly without having been hit by it I mean common you can't learn how to (flawless block) air ok So I heavily disagree with you I grew up being my own dad's punching bag in mortal Kombat to now I can carry people full screen an (jail) them in the corner that's a stereotype I see switch over from first person shooters a lot I mean you were a noob there playing those games before you got good./ P.S. I put the fighting game terms I used in parentheses for basic terms you can look up if you're new to fighting games for anyone wanting to learn

  26. Besides the helpful tips, IT'S SO FUN TO SEE SOMEONE PLAY KOF FOR THE FIRST TIME!

Leona in particular has a lot of history behind her, and in KoF '97 that "zombie" form was crucial to the plot. The fact that it became a super move is very interesting for her character. And yes, SNK special moves were always this brutal and I love them 😀

  27. Step 1 – mash all buttons until you win! 💪🏆

  28. Thanks a lot man! Really needed this after I got destroyed yesterday online at USF4. Good to see that even a pro like you would be struggling with a new fg.
    Got me motivated to continue!❤

  29. Came for fighting game tips, stayed for the life advice. I love your channel. You have such a welcoming energy and are a gift to the fgc.

  30. thank you so much for showing the process of how you learn a fighting game. I have struggled with this my whole life, and all I ever hear is just "practice, just practice, just play and you'll figure it out" and nobody ever talks about HOW to practice. It has taken me all of almost 40 years to learn how to improve at something, and you've shown me the way. Thanks man!

  31. One of the biggest things I took from this is you having fun even when getting a hard time in the online match, thats a message right there 🙂

  32. Rock popping out for Terry's winpose jumpscared me
